Solang Nallah (2480 meter) is a beautiful valley 13 km away from Manali. Surrounded by white crested mountains and tall deodar trees, it offers delightful experience to its visitors such as Trekking, paragliding and Rock climbing. Excellent ski slopes and a good ski-lift make it a popular resort in winter.

This is a beautiful 30 km Mountain bike tour. We start in Old Manali. From there it goes along the left side of the River Beas through apple orchards and some nice villages. This route is completely off road until Palchan and goes constantly uphill so lots of stamina is requested. But if you still have some air in your lungs and want to have a nice view from an upper village down into the Kullu valley, then we can leave the original route and climb up a rocky and muddy way to Majach Village. Here we even cross a stream, so some technique skills are requested. But don’t worry. Even if it is the first time on the mountain bike you will enjoy this challenging route. Especially when it gets down same way, after the half an hour climb.

From Palchan, situated on the foot of the Rothang Pass we turn left and follow a proper route 2 km up to the headquarter of adventure sports. How about a Paragliding flight or some zorbing? But you can also just relax and take pleasure in the nice mountain scenery. After Lunch we will go back same way. But this time 15 km only downhill! So wrap yourself in warm cloth and enjoy the pace!

From Palchan we get on the road climbing up the Rothang Pass. Following this route for the next 4 km we get a tiny feeling of participating at the Tour de France while taking on serpentine after another. Shortly behind Kothi we turn right and reach a trial which is totally off road. Big rocks, loose sand, small streams: All those make the last 2 km to a real adventure. Reaching the top on a green meadow surrounded by pine forest we have a nice view of snow capped mountains and the green Kullu Valley. After Lunch we wrap ourselves in warm cloth and go all the way back- but this time down! So take care and enjoy!

Manali to Naggar cycle Tour
Duration: 1 day tour 22 or 44 km
Best season: March to December
Region: Kullu Valley

Naggar, a lovely village set on a hill surrounded by forest was the capital of Kullu in the 16th century. And the monuments in the region are witness to its glorious past. The Naggar castle, a stone and wood structure built by Raja Sidh Singh over 500 years ago, has been converted into a heritage hotel. The gracefully built castle has a temple in the courtyard and also houses a small museum. The temples of that area, such as the grey sandstone Gauri Shankar Temple of Shiva or the Jagti Patt temple, with its triangular slab of stone, strewn with rose petals and rupee notes are worth a visit.

The paintings and photographs of the Russian Nicholas Roerich are exhibited in the Nicholas Roerich Art Gallery. He was a famous artist, writer, photographer, archeologist, explorer and mystic who settled down in this area. One can see the beds, library, settees, writing tables, toiletries and samovars of his family in the museum.

So why not combine cultural sightseeing with some activity?

We follow the road from Manali on the right side of the River Beas and will cross plenty of tiny villages, rice fields and apple orchards. While going to Naggar is nearly completely downhill, the 22 km back in the afternoon are a little challenging. So in case you are too tired there is also the possibility of taking the jeep for going back. In both cases you can enjoy the beautiful mountain scenery.
